Project Goal

The main goal for this project was to create a strong visual brand identity and design a website and app that each have a well designed experience for the users.

Research

I interviewed ten young adults ages 21-26 who go to concerts and festivals several times a year. I asked them questions about their experiences navigating festival and concert websites and apps depending on which they used.

Some of the questions I asked were:

  • What is the first thing you look for when navigating a music festival or music bands websites?

  • What have you found frustrating when navigating festival or music bands websites?

  • What are some positive experiences you’ve had navigating through music festival or music bands websites?

Summarizing everything I learned, I realized music festival websites have too much going on in their homepage and the navigation bar has too many options, which makes finding the information the user is looking for overwhelming and frustrating.

Analyzing these pain points; I’ve come up with goals on what Summer Daze had the potential to develop:

Summer Daze Solutions

  • An easy to understand navigation setup for the website and app

  • Keep the website and app design to a few colors

  • Minimalize the amount of text on text heavy sections like the Info and Lineup section

Ideation Development

With several layout ideas in my head, I decided to draw them all out and list the main sections for the music festival website and app. Through user testing I found out which website layout users found the easiest to navigate.

Visual Development

With this music festival taking place during summer and on the water, I wanted the entire brand to give off a summer on the water vibe. With these factors in mind, incorporating summer colors that are seen when you are on the beach can allow the users to already have an image of what the environment of Summer Daze will be like.

Design Challenge

There are lots of festival websites and festival apps out there; how could I make my festival website and app better than the ones that already exist.

Outcome

Here are some of the features to improve navigation for a music festivals website and app using sketch

I made the ticket options visually more exciting because I wanted the user to have an easier time telling the different ticket options apart without the tickets being too text heavy

To cut down on the information page being text heavy I decided to make it so the user could choose what information they would like to see without having to scroll through lots of information about the festival they don’t care about.

Reflection

Working on this project made me realize how much information needs to be displayed on a music festival’s website or even a music band’s website. Looking back, there are some visual aspects of the website and app I definitely would fix, however, I am proud of how much I learned through out this journey. Learning how to create a brand and making the different components unite is very important. I’m excited to see how I can push this project further!
